A cookbook necessarily refers to a particular type of book that contains information on recipes, ingredients to use, and tips and advice on the basics of cooking. A cookbook is often called the cooks bible which helps them keep a good direction while preparing food. The earliest known cookbooks in Arabic are those of al-Warraq (10th century) and al-Baghdadi (13th century).
But modern culinary guides are more of a reference material and are widely used in almost every kitchen. They emerged over the following centuries. These books not only provided recipe information but also encompassed other relevant general instructions for cooking techniques. and household management. These books were written primarily for housewives and sometimes servants, as opposed to professional cooks.

There are many types of cookbooks that are available online as well as in the open market. Celebrity chefs have also given a major boost to this business as most of the recipes they have shown on their shows have been converted into books. Many celebrity chefs like Nigella Lawson, Julia Child, Emeril Lagasse, Jeff Smith, Madhur Jaffrey have published a variety of cookbooks, each specializing in their own style of cooking.
The regional and ethnic setting also plays an important role in a cookery-related book. Recipes and cuisines vary from region to region and hence the ingredients and cooking procedure also change. International cookbooks focus on recipes and cuisines from various countries and regions. .
Some books focus on a single topic like ingredients, cooking technique, or a particular type of dish. Single-topic cookbooks are very focused and contain the maximum amount of information about a particular topic.
Some of the cookbooks focus on quick meal ideas and have a compilation of those recipes that can be prepared in a short time with the use of minimal ingredients.
Apart from this, a variety of culinary arts materials are available which focus on dietary specifications and are used more by people who have dietary restrictions and also by people who believe in healthy eating. Some of these books are primarily aimed at vegetarian readers and users and provide information on different types of vegetarian dishes and their preparation techniques.
