The secret ingredient

Typically, celebrity chefs and anyone with the necessary cooking skills will not part with an accurate full list of ingredients and/or method to replicate a recipe for a popular dish. The reasons are many. The acclaimed dish can be a centerpiece of the restaurant menu. The preparer believes that he or she can write a cookbook, and that this particular dish might warrant a value in the book. Perhaps the recipe is a family recipe, passed down from an ancestor (Aunt Lucy).

“Who am I to give Aunt Lucy’s gift to our family?”

But, there are chefs and meal preppers who seem willing to part with the ways and means of crafting a coveted dish, but they won’t tell you that they deliberately omitted or misrepresented a detail. A rookie culinary saboteur might mess with the cooking temperature, but what’s the point of ruining the whole dish for an admirer of your cooking? No. Better for the conceited to omit a single supporting ingredient (a secret ingredient).

“Looks like your dish, but it doesn’t taste the same,” your admirer said. You suggest there was a lot of humidity that day. don’t dare to suggest “Go ask your grandmother to teach you how to cook!” After all, your admirer suffers because of you.
